The Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation is dedicated to fulfilling our mission to support the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. We accept both unrestricted and targeted gifts.
Targeted gifts may be made for:
Historic & Cultural Interpretation
Research & Planning
In 2017, we established The Gardner Defoe Allagash Access Fund, in support of youth programs on the Allagash. This fund is named after wilderness teacher and Allagash legend Gardner Defoe and a group of his students, as they journeyed on the Allagash River one last time together. The Gardner Defoe Alumni Group is working to raise $25,000 by December 1, 2017. This amount will fund 10 student trips on the Allagash for 5 years.
In recent years, we have raised funds to complete the acquisition of the Lock Dam Lot, the last remaining piece of the Restricted Zone not owned by the State of Maine (Land Conservation), as well as to support extended trips on the Waterway by young people from the St. John Valley and river bank stabilization at heavily used campsites.
